Studio Gurlitt at the Kunstmuseum Bern: A glimpse into the restoration process
Today, the Kunstmuseum Bern presented in the presence of District President Bernhard Pulver together with Director Nina Zimmer the Studio Gurlitt. An exclusive guided tour with an expert team through the restoration studio took place. Prior to the exhibition Gurlitt: Status Report. «Degenerate Art» – confiscated and sold the Studio Gurlitt offers insights in the current restoration measures towards works from the succession Gurlitt. The Studio Gurlitt is public and can be visited through guided tours.
The first works from the Gurlitt collection arrived in the Kunstmuseum Bern early in July 2017. Before a selection of these works can be shown to the public for the first time, they are being examined by the team of the Kunstmuseum Bern in a restoration studio set up specially for this purpose, and subjected to conservation measures. Information panels and guided tours in the studio treat issues around the subjects of scientific art analysis, presentation, preservation and provenance research. The viewing window allows a glimpse inside the restoration studio, while in the reading lounge literature about the Gurlitt case and subjects such as provenance research and looted art is available.
The first guided tour will take place on August 20.
From 2 November 2017 until 4 March 2018 the Kunstmuseum Bern will be showing the exhibition Gurlitt: Status Report. Degenerate Art – Confiscated and Sold, while in the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn the exhibition Gurlitt: Status Report. Nazi Art Theft and its Consequences will run from 3 November 2017 until 11 March 2018.
