"Credit Suisse Förderpreis Videokunst 2016" Call for Entries

The «Credit Suisse Förderpreis Videokunst» competition is being staged for the fifth time, and once again the call for entries is being issued via Switzerland's universities of applied science. This national competition for video art is aimed at students who take an innovative approach to working with the medium of video. The award is endowed with CHF 8,000 and will be conferred on February 25, 2016 by a panel of celebrated judges. The winning work will also become part of the Kunstmuseum Bern's collection.

The Kunstmuseum Bern and Credit Suisse inaugurated the prize for up-and-coming video talent in 2011 to mark the 15th anniversary of their partnership and have awarded it four times since then. The winner in 2015 was André Mayr. He was awarded the Credit Suisse Förderpreis Videokunst for his work "Vampyroteuthis." Since the first call for entries for the prize, submissions have almost tripled. Last year, 64 of the submitted works were selected for the competition. The jury, chaired by Dr. Kathleen Bühler, film scholar and curator at the Kunstmuseum Bern, has seen a steady increase in the quality of the work.

As of now, students can register for the fifth staging of the award and submit their work, which can also be final-year projects: www.foerderpreisvideokunst.ch.

The winner of the Credit Suisse Förderpreis Videokunst 2016 will be honored on February 25, 2016 in the Kunstmuseum Bern's PROGR exhibit space, where the work will be displayed for three weeks. In addition, the winning video will presented at the Museumsnacht Bern on March 18, 2016, along with other selected works, in the Credit Suisse branch on Bundesplatz. The award-winning work will then be incorporated into the Kunstmuseum Bern's collection as a gift from Credit Suisse.
