Anecdotes of destiny

The exhibition presents artists and works from the collection of Kunstmuseum Bern that have rarely been seen by a large public. In dialogue with «masterpieces» of the collection, these forgotten or neglected voices show that the art history and the collection that we think we know by heart is full of unknown stories that wait to be discovered and told.

These stories make us aware that history is a multilayered, dynamic structure that constantly reveals new meanings, when looked at closely.

Among the artists presented in the show are: Annie Stebler-Hopf, Clara von Rappard, Karl Stauffer-Bern, Louise-Cathérine Breslau, Ferdinand Hodler, Gertrud Dübi-Müller, Max Buri, Félix Vallotton, Eduard Boss, Anna Elisabeth von Erlach, Paul Klee, Arnold Böcklin, Marcello, Alice Bailly, Johannes Itten, Martha Stettler, Irène Zurkinden, Adolf Wölfli and others.

Stories by Dorothee Elmiger, Friederike Kretzen, Eva Maria Leuenberger, Melinda Nadj Abonji and Frédéric Zwicker accompany the exhibition. All the stories can be read and heard in the Digital Guide.
